Tokyo micro-retirement transit: subway tickets, airport bus, and four-currency reference prices

On a short Tokyo stay, transit spend can quietly overrun the budget. Instead of buying “unlimited rides” on sight, list daily routes, ride counts, and airport arrival timing—then compare single tickets, subway passes, and airport buses.

First: Tokyo Subway Ticket is not every train

Tokyo Subway Ticket has 24-, 48-, and 72-hour options. Official adult fares are ¥1,000, ¥1,500, and ¥2,000. Validity counts from first use by hours—not calendar midnights. It covers Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway; JR, private railways, and other systems are excluded.

Map lodging, daily destinations, and likely lines first. If you lean on JR, or ride the subway only a few times a day, a pass may cost more than pay-as-you-go. If sights cluster with many transfers, compare matching-duration passes to single fares. Official fares and routes can change—reconfirm before departure.

Klook starting prices in four currencies for budgeting

As of 23 Oct 2026, Klook partner backend showed Tokyo Subway Ticket from US$6.25—about ¥979 / HK$49 / NT$203 at that day’s FX. That is a product “from” starting-price conversion—not every duration, date, or ticket type. Final amount follows selected date/ticket and checkout.

Narita Airport Limousine Bus showed from US$18.29—about ¥2,866 / HK$143 / NT$594. Whether a bus helps depends on terminal, destination, schedule, and luggage; confirm boarding point and drop-off, reserved schedules, and cancellation limits.

Foreign-currency figures are approximate for comparison using 23 Oct 2026 reference rates—not fixed merchant quotes in every currency. Bank/card FX, foreign-transaction fees, and checkout rates can change what you actually pay.

Three checks before booking

If you have not chosen a mode yet, write expected routes and ride counts, then compare item by item. The goal is not “maximum rides”—it is a smooth trip within a budget you accept.
